The Cabildo prepares the celebration of the 35th edition of the Insular Crafts Fair to be held in San Andrés y Sauces.

The event will host 138 artisans and already has a poster inviting visitors to visit the fair between 14 and 18 August.

The Cabildo de La Palma, through the Department of Crafts and the public company Sodepal, is finalising preparations for the 35th edition of the Island Fair to be held in the municipality of San Andrés y Sauces, which highlights the value of traditional crafts as the protagonists of the event.

The island's president, Sergio Rodríguez, emphasises that the work of the island's government group is to protect, "more than ever", the trades that are in danger of continuity, and for this reason they will be present at the Fair to convey to all visitors the importance of their conservation.

Sergio Rodríguez stresses that the Fair gives artisans the opportunity to showcase their talent, generate income and establish commercial networks that can have a positive long-term impact.

Therefore, this fair, which already has an advertising poster, will allow the participation of 119 artisans and 19 food artisans. It will be held in the areas adjacent to the Municipal Pavilion, with a shuttle transport system that will bring people interested in visiting the Fair.

The Fair will open its doors on Wednesday 14th August at 17:00, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy crafts, workshops, activities for all ages and traditional music provided by each of the municipalities. Opening hours for the rest of the days will be between 11:00 and 21:00.

Among the activities planned, there will be a children's competition of ideas about the crafts of La Palma, which will allow young people to become aware of the need to safeguard crafts and to get closer to traditional trades.

The Councillor for Crafts, Pablo Díaz Cobiella, hopes that "all the people, residents of our island and tourists, will enjoy an event that is already a tradition in itself, where we value the hands and hard work of all the craftsmen and craftswomen".

In addition, the councillor referred to the fact that this Fair is the showcase par excellence for the Island's crafts, as well as being "a challenge today, for which we continue to devise and design new strategies to not only strengthen it, but also to ensure that trades are not lost".

The CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, highlights that the public company will be present at the fair with the project 'La Palma Artesanía', which works to promote craftsmanship, under the firm belief that the island has a competitive advantage in this sector and therefore must contribute to its economic development.

In addition, Miriam Perestelo points out that the celebration of the Insular Crafts Fair "is not only key to promoting the work of our craftsmen and craftswomen, but also has a positive impact on the municipalities where it is held each year, in this case, in San Andrés y Sauces". This translates into promotion and visibility for a municipality that expects to receive thousands of visitors, also boosting local trade and strengthening our economy.

The mayor of San Andrés y Sauces, Francisco Paz, wanted to highlight "the singular value of the craftsmanship of the island, recognised and recognisable for its excellence". Being the host municipality of the Insular Crafts Fair, he said, "is a joy because of the commercial dynamism it promotes and because we welcome the products of the hands of artists, artisans who know the value of meticulous work in keeping with traditions that remain thanks to them and that we cannot lose".
