The next edition of Transvulcania adidas TERREX will have, for the first time in its history, an inclusive mode of competition in which participants will be able to make use of the Joëlette, wheelchairs adapted for use in mountainous terrain.

Since last May, working commissions have been held between the public company Sodepal, the Department of Sports and the Department of Social Action together with the island's associative sector with the aim of making an international event such as Transvulcania adidas TERREX accessible to everyone at all levels.

The improvements proposed in these work commissions have been framed in a Global Accessibility Plan for the event that will be implemented in the 2025 and 2026 editions, extending to 2027 if necessary. One of the highlights, in the sporting part, is the inclusion in the event of a competition modality in Joëlette, aimed at people with physical or functional disabilities, which will take place on the same day as the rest of the longer modalities, using part of the race route itself and sharing the finish line with the Ultramarathon in Los Llanos de Aridane.

Its route will start from the Mirador de El Time, on Saturday 10th May, and will have a distance of 7.91 kilometres, an accumulated difference in altitude of 1,048 metres, and will share the route with the Marathon to Puerto de Tazacorte and the Ultramarathon, as its finish line will also be at the Plaza de España in Los Llanos de Aridane. It should be noted that registration for this new modality will open this Friday 14th February at 12:00 noon, and will have a registration fee of 30 euros per team.

In addition to this action, there are others, such as the promotion of athletes with some kind of disability to give them visibility, as well as improving the general accessibility of several emblematic points of the event, to make them accessible for the fans as well.

The CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, stresses that this commitment is a continuation of the work being done to recover the essence of the event, including actions of inclusion and general accessibility. 

For her part, the head of the Social Action area, Ángeles Fernández, highlights the sector's acceptance of this initiative, which is reflected in the different working commissions in which all the third sector associations involved have participated.

The Councillor for Sports, Yurguen Hernández, stresses that in this way and with this initiative, Transvulcania continues to take steps towards the inclusion that his department is committed to in all the sports that are practised on the island.
