The event, which will be hosted by the Canarian model and presenter Jose Toledo, consolidates in a new edition that highlights the value of the creative and textile sector, strengthening the structures of a growing fashion community on the island of La Palma.
The Society for Economic and Social Promotion and Development of the Island of La Palma (SODEPAL), with the clear objective of creating a fashion community related to the Isla Bonita Moda project, as well as to encourage the emergence of new values in the textile and creative field of the island, celebrates this Thursday 24th April 2025 from 18:30h. In the framework of the Casa de la Cultura Braulio Martín Hernández in El Paso, the awards ceremony "Isla Bonita Moda al Talento Made In La Palma", in a new edition that recognises the talent of the island's fashion creatives in eight main categories: fashion brand, photography and catwalk model, make-up professionals, hairdressing professionals, photography and audiovisual fashion creation, content creators and sustainable fashion project.
In addition, a special "Honorary Talent Award" will be given out of competition after its approval by the Board of Directors of SODEPAL, which in this second edition pays tribute to the business career of Mr. Pedro Ferreiro Rodríguez (a native of Los Llanos de Aridane), better known on the island of La Palma as "Pedro Orley". A well-deserved tribute to a figure whose talent and entrepreneurial vision have left an indelible mark in the field of jewellery on the island of La Palma.
Joyería Orley was founded by Pedro Ferreiro Rodríguez at the end of 1964, being a pioneer in this sector and the first jewellery shop to open its doors in Los Llanos de Aridane and which is still in business today. However, the history of the Ferreiro family in La Palma goes back even further, to the 1950s, when Manuel Ferreiro Bouzas, Pedro's father, established himself in La Palma as a travelling salesman.
Currently, the third generation of the family is represented by Nancy Ferreiro Fernández, who continues the family business from Joyería Orley.
The Ferreiro family is still the oldest family in the Canary Islands in the jewellery sector, with its descendants established not only in La Palma but also in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. Pedro Ferreiro Rodríguez has practised a business philosophy based on honesty and customer service, visiting his customers at home in all the villages of the island with the difficulties that this entailed in those days when communications were not what they are today. The idea that "the customer has to come back" underlines the importance of loyalty and long-term satisfaction, fundamental values for any serious and committed trader. This approach has allowed him to build a solid and reliable reputation with a dedication to the trade and an ability to adapt to changes in the market and current trends.
With modern facilities and the representation of important brands, it has managed to stand out in the field of jewellery, being a reference within the commercial sector of the island and an example of successful generational handover, through its children Nancy and Pedro Ferreiro with shops in Los Llanos de Aridane and Santa Cruz de La Palma.
As for the jury appointed to assess the categories in the competition, it is made up entirely of the Isla Bonita Moda Guarantee Committee: Miriam Perestelo (Councillor for Economic Promotion of the Cabildo Insular de La Palma and CEO of Sodepal) who acts as president, with voice but without vote; Andrés Acosta (Fashion Designer and Artistic, Commercial and Expansion Director of Isla Bonita Moda); Mónica Reverón and Verania Sánchez (Manolo Blahnik Art School); also Jose Toledo (TV Presenter and Model); Marta Ortiz (Model and Businesswoman); Daniela Gutiérrez (Creative Director and Businesswoman) and Jonathan Díaz (Designer and member representing the Isla Bonita Moda collective on the Committee of Guarantees).
On the occasion of the celebration, Isla Bonita Moda has entrusted the talent of the jeweller, gemologist and designer Pedro Ferreiro, a member of the Isla Bonita Moda collective, to design and create the award that all the winners will receive this Thursday. A creation that pays tribute to the craftsmanship of La Palma, ancestral cradle of great artisans, but especially to silk, and to the spinners of El Paso - also members of the Isla Bonita Moda programme - the only stronghold in Europe to preserve the manual process. For this, Ferreiro starts with the "spindle or shuttle" as the central element of inspiration, through a story in which, for the creator himself, "talent is the manifestation of emotional intelligence, an innate aptitude or ability to successfully develop the ability to create and express our emotions through art".
The event is free to attend until full capacity is reached. At the end of the event, Isla Bonita Moda will host a cocktail party in the Museo de La Seda de El Paso.
The Councillor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal Miriam Perestelo states that "at Sodepal we are firmly committed to the consolidation of a creative sector that is already a hallmark of our island. The Isla Bonita Moda Awards for Talent Made in La Palma not only give visibility to the work of our designers, artisans and professionals in the field of fashion, but also reinforce La Palma's commitment to innovation, sustainability and local talent. It is exciting to see how this project grows year after year, becoming an engine of economic and cultural development".
