La Palma hosts a new edition of Benemérita Bike, a solidarity initiative promoted by the Guardia Civil, with the support of the Cabildo de La Palma and Sodepal, which this year changes its format to become a cycling event. The event will take place on the 5th of October and will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Guardia Civil barracks in Santa Cruz de La Palma. The main objective of this event is to collect basic food products for the Food Bank Cruz Roja La Palma.
The Councillor for Economic Promotion of the Cabildo and CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, points out that "each participant will contribute this type of food as a registration fee, to support the work of the Red Cross with the most disadvantaged people on the island". She also assures that "the aim of this type of initiative is to raise awareness among the population of the importance of helping those who need it most".
The Sports Councillor, Yurguen Hernández, explains that "this is a race with which we seek to promote sporting activity and solidarity support for associations such as the Red Cross". He adds that "those who have already registered will be able to join in at the various refreshment posts".
For his part, the chief captain of the Guardia Civil in La Palma, Ángel Cervero, is grateful for the commitment of the Cabildo of La Palma, which every year offers its support to this solidarity initiative that seeks to contribute to help the people who need it most on the island. He also highlights the solidarity of the people participating in this event.
The procedure of the route will follow the established timetable. It starts at the Guardia Civil barracks in Santa Cruz de La Palma at 9:00 a.m., going up the Las Vueltas road to La Concepción. At 10:00 a.m. it starts at the Plazoleta de La Concepción. The next start is at 11:00 hours in the Plaza del Corpus, at 12:30 hours the start in the Plaza de Fuencaliente and the finish line is estimated at 14:30 hours. There will be a transfer back to the start of the race.
The organisers acknowledge the disinterested help provided by the Town Councils of Los Llanos de Aridane, Breña Alta, Villa de Mazo, Fuencaliente and Santa Cruz de La Palma, as well as the company MAsensio Seguridad.
