President Sergio Rodríguez stresses that "betting on the audiovisual sector is betting on the economic future of the island".
The Cabildo of La Palma, through the public company Sodepal and the La Palma Film Commission, participated this week in the fifth edition of Shooting Locations Marketplace, held on 15 and 16 October at Feria de Valladolid. The event, organised by the Spain Film Commission and Feria de Valladolid with the support of the Junta de Castilla y León and the Valladolid City Council, has established itself as one of the main international events dedicated to connecting filming destinations with producers and location managers from all over the world.
The president of the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, stresses that "betting on the audiovisual sector is betting on the economic future of the island, on an activity that generates qualified employment, promotes innovation and projects the image of La Palma as a modern, sustainable territory that is ready to host large productions".
Miriam Perestelo, Councillor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal, points out that "the presence of La Palma at this international meeting and the organisation of the fam trip consolidate the internationalisation strategy of the island's audiovisual sector, opening up new opportunities for collaboration, investment and employment linked to the cultural and creative economy".
The island's Councillor for Tourism, Raquel Rebollo, stresses that "audiovisuals are also an extremely valuable tool for promoting tourism". Every filming that comes to La Palma contributes to making the beauty and authenticity of our landscapes known, generating a return that goes beyond the immediate economic impact and awakening interest in the island's attributes," adds Rebollo.
Under the umbrella of Canary Islands Film, and together with the Film Commissions of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, the representation from La Palma has an intense agenda of meetings with representatives of international studios and production companies such as Marvel Studios, Netflix, Apple TV+, Amazon Studios, Warner Bros Television, Disney+ or Universal Pictures, as well as independent professionals who work regularly with these studios, platforms and production companies. By origin, the agenda includes meetings with North American production companies, as well as European ones from the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland and Poland. In total, the meeting brings together 67 top-level professionals from more than a dozen countries, consolidating the event as a benchmark on the world audiovisual industry calendar.
The profile of the participants confirms the high level of the event: many are linked to high-impact projects such as Loki (Marvel Studios), Squid Game, Secret Invasion, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Drops of God or The Odyssey. More than 80% of the guests are attending for the first time, demonstrating the potential for renewal and international reach of this event, which allows new strategic contacts to be established, alliances to be explored and the island to be showcased as an opportunity for future projects.
La Palma comes with the aim of reinforcing its position as a natural set of reference, highlighting its diverse landscape, the growing professionalism of the island's audiovisual sector and the most competitive tax incentives in Europe, with deductions of up to 54% for national and international filming. These advantages place the island, together with the Canary Islands, in a very attractive position to host large format projects that seek unique, sustainable locations outside the traditional circuits, a growing trend in the global audiovisual industry.
After its participation in Valladolid, La Palma will host the first stage of the familiarisation trip (fam trip) on 17, 18 and 19 October, which will then travel to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. On the island, the ten participating international production companies will discover first-hand the possibilities offered by the territory as a natural film set. The programme includes visits to Santa Cruz de La Palma, the Roque de los Muchachos and its Observatory, laurel forest areas such as Cubo de La Galga or Los Tilos, and volcanic landscapes, showing the diversity of contrasting landscapes that the island offers as an audiovisual destination. There will also be astronomical observation activities, excursions and local gastronomic experiences.
With its participation in Shooting Locations Marketplace 2025, La Palma continues to consolidate its position within the Canary Islands and European audiovisual ecosystem, strengthening its network of international contacts and projecting the island's image as a unique destination for film and audiovisual productions from all over the world.
