Miriam Perestelo indicates that this action is part of the project Saborea La Palma.
La Palma is hosting, promoted by the Cabildo de La Palma, the official second level training of the prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), one of the most recognised certifications worldwide in the professionalisation of the wine and gastronomy sector.
This action is developed thanks to the commitment of the Cabildo de La Palma, through the Department of Agriculture and the public company Sodepal, through the Saborea La Palma project, to improve training in the gastronomic sector, a fundamental sector in the island's economic development.
The Councillor for Economic Promotion of the Cabildo de La Palma, Miriam Perestelo, has assured that "we have made a notable effort, with outstanding results, to promote our gastronomic sector, positioning it in the most important national fairs", but "we are aware" of the need "to work on the training of our professionals".
With this idea in mind, "we reached an agreement with Canarias Wine Academy", a WSET-accredited centre in the archipelago that is collaborating with this initiative, "to offer first-level courses, with international recognition", the councillor stressed, who informed that after successfully developing the first-level course, "we wanted to go a step further with the start of the second-level training", with the Cabildo de La Palma paying 50% of the enrolment fee for all those registered.
In the two WSET courses in La Palma, first and second level, some 30 professionals are taking part, who will transfer the training they are receiving to their establishments or to the Consejo Regulador Vinos de La Palma itself.
WSET, founded in 1969 in London, is the leading global leader in wine and spirits education. It is present in more than 70 countries and has trained more than one million students. Its courses offer a rigorous, progressive and highly valued structure in the hotel, restaurant, wine tourism and winery sectors.
