Pedro Rodríguez and Bettina Janas in the long race and Borja Martín and Sophie Giovane in the short race are proclaimed winners at the start of the event.
The island of La Palma experienced a day of high voltage this Friday with the start of the first stage of the Transvulcania Bike 2025, which started and finished in the municipality of El Paso on the Bike El Paso route. The 48-kilometre long route with 1,850 metres of ascent demanded the maximum from the participants, who faced scandalous climbs until they reached the Llano de La Mosca, the highest point of the route, and then descended to Las Canales and passed through Valencia and El Reventón until they reached the longed-for finish line.
The short stage had a distance of 25 kilometres and 1,000 positive metres that put the participants to the test until they reached Las Pernadas, the highest point of the route, before descending to Las Canales and passing through the area of Valencia and El Reventón until the finish line located in the municipality of El Paso.
Pedro Rodríguez dominated the stage and took the victory in the long distance category with a time of (02:26:30). In second place, very close, was the Spanish Champion, the Galician Pablo Rodríguez (02:27:11), followed by the Russian Olympian Anton Sintsov (02:33:20) who closed the podium. In the women's race, the winner was Germany's Bettina Janas (03:06:00), followed by Tessa Kortekaas (03:19:15). The podium was completed by Lourdes Bethencourt (04:02:50).
For his part, the short race was also a great spectacle, with the winner being Borja Martín (01:34:40). In second place was Ismael Herrera (01:39:45), followed closely by Izan Montesdeoca (01:40:34), who completed the men's podium. In the women's category, the winner was Sophie Giovane (01:49:11).
