The traditional meeting will be held in the Sports Pavilion of the municipality of San Andrés y Sauces from 14th to 18th August, from 11:00 to 21:00 hours.
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, inaugurated the 35th La Palma Island Crafts Fair together with the councillor responsible for the area, Pablo Díaz Cobiella, the councillor for Economic Promotion, Miriam Perestelo, and the mayor of San Andrés y Sauces, Francisco Paz. A meeting of creators that will run until 18 August and which brings together 119 professionals and 19 food companies in the municipal Sports Pavilion, from 11:00 to 21:00 hours.
"Crafts are a hallmark of our island and this fair, which every year brings together professionals from the sector in the same space, is key to highlighting the importance of this work, which we must preserve. It is essential that future generations get involved in the continuity of these trades," said Sergio Rodríguez.
For his part, the Councillor for Crafts, Pablo Díaz Cobiella, underlined the importance of the event in promoting the sector and remarked that "this fair is not only a showcase for our artisans, but also an economic and cultural engine for La Palma. We will continue to work so that the craftsmanship of our island is recognised beyond our borders".
The Councillor for Economic Promotion, Miriam Perestelo, also emphasised the impact of the fair on the local economy. "This event is a unique opportunity for our craftsmen and craftswomen to showcase their talent and connect with a wider public. It is also a significant boost to the island's economy, attracting numerous visitors and encouraging the consumption of local products," said Perestelo.
Finally, the mayor of San Andrés y Sauces, Francisco Paz, highlighted the cultural and heritage value of the fair and the positive impact it has on the municipality. "Crafts are an integral part of our history and tradition. This event is not only a celebration of our crafts, but also a tribute to all those who, with their effort and dedication, keep our cultural heritage alive".
This year, traditional crafts will be the protagonists of the island event, which has an extensive programme of activities, such as a children's competition of ideas about the crafts of La Palma, which will allow youngsters to become aware of the importance of preserving crafts and to get closer to ancestral trades.
Also, as a novelty, this year the Fair will have a transfer service for visitors during the four days of the fair. The Department of Crafts and the public company Sodepal will provide a free shuttle bus service within the municipality of San Andrés y Sauces.
The pick-up points will be from Las Lomadas, at the Marcos y Cordero rise and at the Bajamar crossroads, from 17:00 to 21:00 on Wednesday, 14th August, and from 11:00 to 21:00, from 15th to 18th August.
