Under the slogan of "a very traditional festival", it will bring together comedy and music during the last week of June in the Puerto Naos neighbourhood.
The Cabildo de La Palma, through the Sociedad de Promoción y Desarrollo Económico y Social, is promoting the celebration of the first Palmero Comedy Festival 'Desaquellados', which will bring together regional, national and international figures of humour and music.
The president of the Cabildo, Sergio Rodríguez, stresses that this event has the participation of the local comedian Petite Lorena as hostess of the other stand-up artists who will allow us to enjoy, tour and share for a few days the treasure of the particular and surreal idiosyncrasy of La Palma.
In addition, Sergio Rodríguez points out that under the slogan "a very funny festival", this festival becomes an event focused solely on comedy, made by and for laughter, with stand-up as the main genre, but with room for everything that has to do with humour and always with the idiosyncrasy of La Palma as the central axis.
Miriam Perestelo, Councillor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal, points out that the festival will take place between 22 and 28 June, with workshops, musical performances by the comedians, and will also create an Artistic Residence for the comedians on the bill, with the aim of favouring the connection with the local context.
In this sense, the island's Councillor for Culture, Pablo Díaz Cobiella, emphasises that this cultural action allows this sector to make an important contribution to the recovery and well-being of the people affected by the volcano, as well as providing a new economic stimulus for the area.
In this first edition of the festival, the coastal town of Puerto Naos, one of the places most affected by the volcano, will be the main stage where Petite Lorena will welcome with open arms all those who come to live the experience of celebrating the deepest soul of the island of La Palma. The municipality of El Paso will also host the parallel workshops that will take place during the programmed dates.
This is a project that we have been working on for almost a year now, and which, with a lot of effort, will allow us to count on relevant figures of humour, managing to unify agendas in order to make it a reality during 2025.
Unhinged.
One of the thousand ways in which the magic realism of La Palma manifests itself is through the verb 'aquellar'. This canarism, which gives its name to the festival and which means nothing and at the same time means everything, is a word used to express any action whose verb is ignored, not remembered or not wanted to be expressed.
Thus, for example, Petite herself, in one of her monologues, could say such poetically mysterious phrases as "You tell me what I've unsealed and I can't unseal it myself".
In short, it is a title characteristic of the idiosyncrasy of the people of La Palma to convey the double entendres and the particular sarcasm of the people of La Palma.
