The Cabildo de La Palma brings the Perseids closer to the public

Those interested will be able to follow the live broadcast of the Tears of San Lorenzo from the Roque de Los Muchachos Visitor Centre on the night of 11th August, from 23:30 hours.

The Department of Tourism of the Cabildo de La Palma and the public company Sodepal are bringing the Perseids or tears of San Lorenzo to the public on the night of Monday 11th August. Those interested will be able to follow the live broadcast of the Tears of San Lorenzo from the Roque de Los Muchachos Visitor Centre, starting at 23:30 hours.

The Councillor for Tourism, Raquel Rebollo, stresses that, thanks to the conditions of the skies of La Palma, "the island is one of the best places in the world to observe this type of event, the meteor showers, something that also means that it is not necessary to climb to the summits to enjoy this phenomenon, but can be observed from dark places such as beaches and areas in the midlands, thanks to the Law of the Sky and our Starlight Destination and Reserve certifications".

In this sense, the Councillor points out that, to complete the experience, "some specialised astro-tourism companies have designed a series of specific activities for the Perseids".

The CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, also stresses the opportunity that the island offers residents and visitors to enjoy the tears of San Lorenzo, "a special moment that we want to bring closer to those who cannot enjoy it outdoors, thanks to the advantages offered by the clean sky of our island and the commitment we make to facilitate access for everyone to what is happening around them".

In addition to broadcasting through Sodepal's own social networks, the public company and the Cabildo of La Palma will also collaborate with the Sky Live TV channel, which will broadcast live from Extremadura.
