The festival will take place from Wednesday 25th June to Saturday 28th June in the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte.
The island's president, Sergio Rodríguez, stresses the island corporation's commitment to "bring a smile to the faces of the people who have suffered so badly as a result of the Tajogaite eruption".
The Cabildo de La Palma, through the Department of Culture and the public company Sodepal, supports the development of the Desaquellados festival, promoted by the comedian Petite Lorena. The event, which will take place from 25 to 28 June in the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte, focuses on cultural roots as a central element.
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, presented this first edition of the festival of humour together with the councillor for Culture, Pablo Díaz Cobiella; the managing director of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo; the promoter of the project, Petite Lorena, and the director of the recently created Palmera Academy of Humour, Ignatius Farray.
Sergio Rodríguez highlighted the resilience of the people of La Palma, especially those of the Aridane Valley, "who know what it is to suffer but also, in our idiosyncrasy, to laugh. That is why it is especially relevant that we are celebrating this festival of humour today".
In this sense, the island president has claimed the importance of bringing together on the island national comedians of the stature of Eva Hache but also having the local talent of people like Petite Lorena or Isa Fuentes. "It couldn't have a better name than 'Desaquellados', an expression that has no specific meaning, but at the same time encompasses everything we can imagine", Sergio Rodríguez pointed out.
The CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, for her part, also highlighted the talent of the people who make up the line-up for this first edition of the festival "which we hope will be repeated in future editions" and thanked the artists for their involvement. "This is a very good opportunity to highlight the island's comedians, both those with a longer career and those who are called upon to take over from the next generation," she said.
The Councillor for Culture, Pablo Díaz Cobiella, also highlighted the importance of the fact that this festival includes a humour academy, thanks to Ignatius, which provides a space for the comedians who star in the event to live together and allows them to get to know the island in order to offer them the context that is so important for these professionals who narrate their experiences in the first person.
The promoter of the event, Petite Lorena, thanked the Cabildo for the support they have given to this initiative, which aims, on the one hand, to offer a different show to the public of the island, especially those from the Aridane Valley, and, on the other hand, to make important figures of comedy not only participate in the show but also get to know and soak up the traditions and culture of La Palma.
Finally, Ignatius Farray highlighted the space of coexistence that has been generated around this experience and that has allowed the comedians involved to get to know the island in depth, "something that will allow us to offer a more personalised show linked to this territory".
