The Cabildo promotes professionalisation with various workshops on the film sector

The Cabildo de La Palma, through the La Palma Film Commission programme of Sodepal, is carrying out different workshops with the aim of promoting professionalisation on the island within the film sector.

These actions have the presence of referents in this art, as is the case of Patricia Font, screenwriter and director, winner of a Goya in 2015 for best short film for 'Un café para llevar', as well as having been nominated five times for the Goya Awards for 'El Maestro que prometió el Mar'. Nearly a hundred people gathered at the Teatro Cine Chico to attend the acting workshop held by the screenwriter.

President Sergio Rodríguez stresses the outstanding potential of La Palma to host productions of this kind. "Promoting the image of La Palma in the audiovisual field is an important source of income, as well as benefiting the creation of jobs", adds Rodríguez.

Miriam Perestelo, Councillor for Economic Promotion and head of Sodepal, explained the opportunity that La Palma has to become a national reference point for the recording of film projects due to the "natural and unique landscapes" that La Palma boasts.

The training activities have a significant practical component, in order to bring this training as close as possible to real cases that students may encounter in the different departments of audiovisual production.

Other workshops that will be held in the coming weeks are the location scouting and location manager workshop, which is scheduled from 29 July to 2 August. Yanira de Armas, a professional who has worked as a location manager on films such as 'Wonder Woman' and 'Jason Bourne', will be in charge of giving this lesson. Registrations can be accessed through the official website of the La Palma Film Commission: https://lapalmafilmcommission.com/formacion/.

There will also be room for a Film Script Writing workshop, which will be given by the director and scriptwriter Mercedes Afonso, and will take place from the 19th to the 23rd of August. Other possibilities include participation in workshops on wardrobe for film, television and advertising.

For those interested in specific sectors such as aesthetics, courses in characterisation make-up and silicone prostheses are also available.

Another great opportunity for the public will be to attend the workshop on sustainable productions, which will be given by Mrs. Greenfilm, who have experience with large platforms such as Netflix in terms of services for filming in this area.

It should be noted that these lessons have the collaboration of entities such as the Instituto de Formación e Investigación Cinematográfica, the Clúster Audiovisual de Canarias, the association Another Way and the Escuela de Arte Manolo Blahnik.
