The initiative will begin on Thursday 20 March and registration is now open.
The Cabildo de La Palma, through the public company Sodepal, is launching the innovative training programme 'Restoring Stories', an initiative aimed at the recovery and restoration of antique furniture. This project, developed in collaboration with the Saposá Association and the renowned craftswoman Maritina, aims to rescue part of the disused or deteriorated heritage, revaluing it as a cultural, historical and tourist attraction, while generating new economic opportunities for the island.
The Councillor for Crafts, Pablo Díaz Cobiella, stresses that 'Restoring Stories' seeks to highlight the potential of the island's heritage, bringing its history closer to the public and promoting its restoration, both in the public and private spheres. The course is aimed at anyone interested in craftsmanship and furniture restoration, offering an inclusive and participatory approach.
Miriam Perestelo, Councillor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal, stressed the importance of this project, which not only contributes to heritage conservation, but also fosters interest in craftsmanship and restoration. It also provides participants with knowledge and skills that they can apply in future personal or professional projects.
The programme lasts four months and will start on Thursday 20 March. Approximately ten students will participate and will receive specialised training in the restoration of antique furniture under the guidance of the craftswoman Maritina.
Classes will be held in two shifts to facilitate attendance: Monday and Wednesday, and Tuesday and Thursday. Each session will last two hours, allowing flexibility and accessibility for participants.
