The International Hiking and Mountain Festival offers 25 routes to get to know La Palma

The ninth edition of the festival will be held from 12th to 15th October and will host for the first time the II Encuentro de Clubes de Senderismo La Palma.

The International Hiking and Mountain Festival La Palma 2017 will offer hiking enthusiasts the opportunity to get to know the island through 25 guided routes that will take place between 12 and 15 October.

The ninth edition of the festival, which was presented at a press conference by Jordi Pérez Camacho, the councillor responsible for the public company run by the La Palma Island Council, Sodepal, and Ascensión Rodríguez, the island's councillor for Youth and Sports, will host the festival for the first time in its programme. II Meeting of Hiking Clubs of La Palmawhich had previously been developed independently of the event.

Jordi Pérez Camacho stated that "the Cabildo continues its commitment to recognising the value of the island's extensive network of trails, which allows for the development of such an important activity as highlighting the natural environment that surrounds La Palma as an additional attraction for tourism and for the people of the island". "In this new edition we continue to focus on thematic routes, such as the honey or salt route, as well as urban routes and a marine route, a wide range of options for hiking enthusiasts to enjoy the island from different perspectives during the week," adds Jordi Pérez Camacho.

Ascensión Rodríguez pointed out that "routes of varying difficulty have been programmed so that those interested in taking part can do so whether they are not used to long walks or are frequent hikers, or even with the family. In addition, there will be parallel activities and, to round off the event, there will be a concert for walkers and the general public to enjoy live music". Furthermore, those people who are outside the island and want to take part in the festival can benefit from different flight and hotel packages to travel to La Palma during the event, with departures from all the islands, a promotion that is available on the Festival website thanks Canarias Viaja.

Also present at the presentation were the mayor of Villa de Mazo, José María Pestana, the representative of the hiking clubs of La Palma, Gilberto Morales, and the representative on the island of La Palma of the Cajamar Group, the main sponsor of the event, José Luis Rocha.
