This weekend, the renowned designer Maya Hansen, known for her work with renowned artists such as Lady Gaga, Kylie Jenner and Cindy Crawford, led an exclusive workshop at the Manolo Blahnik Art School. This workshop was part of the agreement signed between the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, through the Sociedad de Promoción y Desarrollo Económico y Social de la Isla de La Palma (SODEPAL), and the aforementioned school.

During two intensive days, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the secrets of French corsetry. The workshop, aimed at fashion students, design professionals and sewing enthusiasts, focused on the creation of a classic 10-panel women's corset, teaching from the basics to advanced techniques that could be applied to future projects. The experience was 100% hands-on, allowing attendees to transform patterns, cut fabrics, assemble the structure with metal whales and make their own garments, all with haute couture finishes.

Maya Hansen, a pioneer in couture corsetry design, passed on her vast experience to attendees, guiding them through the process of creating a corset from the ground up. With her technical and creative approach, she shared her vision of this highly specialised discipline, offering participants knowledge that went beyond tailoring: a deep understanding of the design and construction of a garment that has set trends in the international fashion world.

This workshop was one of the many actions that Isla Bonita Moda carried out to strengthen the fashion ecosystem on La Palma. The collaboration with the Manolo Blahnik Art School aimed to provide local designers and future creators with tools and knowledge that would allow them to stand out in both the national and international market. Corsetry, as a discipline of haute couture, offered enormous possibilities for innovation, and this workshop was just one example of how the island was positioning itself as a benchmark in signature fashion.

Miriam Perestelo, Councillor for Economic Promotion of the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, highlighted the importance of this type of initiative and explained that the Cabildo understood that the education and training of local designers was essential for the growth of the sector. This type of workshop not only offered specialised technical knowledge, but also opened doors to new opportunities for the creatives.
