The Transvulcania adidas Terrex Half Marathon and Vertical Climb to the WMRA World Cup

This step is part of a medium-term strategy to put the island in a position to host a World Championship in the future.

The Transvulcania adidas TERREX continues to announce news for its sixteenth edition. After having applied weeks ago to the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) as a candidate to be part of the WMRA World Mountain Running Cup 2026 in the categories of Long Distance and Classic Uphill, the Board of the organisation confirmed this week the inclusion of both races in these categories, selecting them among a wide range of international events.

This designation is an important recognition of the work carried out by the organisation over the last few years, as well as the unique route offered by the island of La Palma, which has become a world reference in mountain trail running. The presence in the World Cup will attract some of the best athletes on the international scene and once again place the island in the spotlight of trail running. The World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) is recognised by World Athletics, the world governing body for athletics, and was also part of the organising committee of the last World Mountain and Trail Running Championships held last September in Canfranc, Pyrenees.

With this announcement, Transvulcania adidas TERREX is firmly committed to consolidate and enhance the value of these two great races -until now in the shadow of the emblematic Ultramarathon-, reinforcing their identity within the international circuit and increasing their sporting, media and tourist impact. It should be noted that the organisers continue to take firm steps with the aim that, in the medium term, the island could be a candidate to hold a World Championship.

Following this announcement, those interested in participating in the WMRA World Cup are encouraged to register on the waiting list for the Half Marathon, as in the coming days regular calls will begin to be made from this list after reaching an agreement with the Environment Service on a small increase in the number of places allocated to this category. We would also like to remind you that direct registration for the Vertical Climb is still open.

The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, emphasises that the institution continues to work on the recovery and consolidation of the event's momentum. "That continues to be a priority", he stresses, being excellent news that the Transvulcania has regained the support of the island's public and in a short space of time it is also gaining international recognition, reaffirming its position as a world elite event".

The Transvulcania adidas TERREX is organised by the Cabildo Insular de La Palma through the public company SODEPAL, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Department of Tourism and Promotur with its brand "Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida", as well as the companies adidas, Hotel H10 Taburiente Playa, Hotel La Palma Princess, Hotel Meliá La Palma, Fred. Olsen Express, Cicar, Spar La Palma, Coca-Cola, Libbys and Isola.
