The island president Sergio Rodríguez emphasises the importance of supporting this type of initiative that promotes healthy lifestyle habits among the younger population of La Palma through the mass sport of football.
From 26th to 29th December, La Palma will host the first edition of the Benahoare League sporting event, an initiative aimed at girls, boys and young people between the ages of 9 and 13 that seeks to bring football and fun back to the streets of the island. The initiative will take place in Calle Ramón Pol in Los Llanos de Aridane.
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, has presented this project together with the island's sports councillor, Yurguen Hernández, and José Gregorio Díaz and Savane Isidro Santana, organisers of the event.
Sergio Rodríguez emphasised the importance of supporting this type of initiative that promotes healthy lifestyle habits among the younger population of La Palma through the mass sport of football. "Physical activity brings with it a series of values, such as sportsmanship, teamwork and discipline, which it is essential that we can instil in young people, something that, in addition to the physical and mental benefits, we must support from the Cabildo of La Palma", he explained.
"But this event is not only a benefit for those who participate directly in it, but also allows the promotion and dynamisation of activity in the area around Ramón Pol Street in Los Llanos de Aridane, thanks to the movement that this initiative will generate, something essential to continue working on the socio-economic recovery that we need, especially in the Valle de Aridane area", said the island president.
The Sports Councillor of the Cabildo de La Palma, Yurguen Hernández, stressed the importance of this new event, "which we hope to consolidate in the annual calendar of our island, as, between players and coaches, it will bring together more than 200 people on dates that already energise our island and its streets," he said.
In this sense, the councillor stressed that this event not only encourages teamwork and the relationship between young people and adults, but also "is committed to the value of women's sport and new technologies to create a pioneering and innovative tournament in the Canary Islands, which we hope will soon become a benchmark". In addition, the councillor emphasises, "it goes in the direction of recovering sporting practices in the street".
