The initiative, which will run from 31 March to 4 April, will serve to publicise the efforts and dedication of the island's craftspeople.
The Cabildo de La Palma, through the Department of Crafts and the project La Palma Artesanía, managed by Sodepal, joins once again the celebration of the European Crafts Days, an initiative that will take place from March 31st to April 4th at the Escuela Insular de Artesanía, located in Villa de Mazo.
During the week, visitors of all ages will be able to learn about different crafts through live exhibitions and interactive activities. This initiative is part of a European movement that seeks to give visibility to the craft sector and highlight the work of professionals who keep traditions alive.
The Councillor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, stresses that, "through the La Palma Artesanía project, we want to continue to promote the sector and publicise the effort and dedication of our artisans. This is an opportunity for the public to discover the creative processes and the value behind each handmade piece".
For his part, the Councillor for Crafts, Pablo Díaz Cobiella, underlines the Cabildo's commitment to the preservation and promotion of traditional crafts. "The Island School of Crafts is a fundamental space for the transmission of knowledge and craft techniques. During these days, we want to bring the talent of our artisans to the public and reaffirm the role of craftsmanship as an essential part of our cultural heritage," he says.
During the European Craft Days there will be a varied programme of activities centred on various craft trades. On Monday, 31 March, you can enjoy demonstrations of weaving and basket weaving. On Tuesday, 1st April, weaving and basket weaving will continue. Wednesday, 2 April, will include weaving/silk weaving and embroidery. On Thursday, April 3, weaving and basketry will be repeated, and finally, on Friday, April 4, weaving/silk, basketry and leatherwork will be presented.
