La Palma, finalist for the Best European Film Location Award

The 'Location Awards' recognises the Tajogaite volcano as one of the five best filming locations in Europe.

The European Film Commission Network, the European Film Commissions Network, has published the list of the best locations that are eligible for this year's prestigious 'Location Awards', including the island of La Palma, proposed by Canary Islands Film, and specifically, the Tajogaite volcano. The list includes nominations for locations in four other countries: Germany, Austria, Malta and Norway, and highlights the importance of the choice of location for the perfect result of the fiction.

The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, highlights the work carried out by the La Palma Film Commission office, which depends on Sodepal, which allows the island to be present in the catalogue of major productions that choose the archipelago for the development of their projects.

From the coast to the highest point of the island, passing through the laurel forests of Los Tilos, the volcanic landscapes and historic streets, the president stresses, La Palma offers endless possibilities that are increasingly in demand and leave more and more investment in the territory.

In this case, the recognition for which the island is eligible comes from the recording of the film 'La hojarasca', by the director Macu Machín, recognised with several film awards and multiple international nominations, placing the island among the top positions in world cinema, which, without doubt, "is a new and important accolade for the audiovisual industry of La Palma, which thus manages to stand out among the more than 100 agencies, film commissions, from all over Europe, more than 32 countries, and the rest of the world," says Sergio Rodríguez.

The president also recalls that "there have been several large international production companies that have visited our territory in recent years, thanks to the La Palma Film Commission, professional visits that are beginning to bear fruit and that have undoubtedly favoured this nomination".

The film's director, Macu Machín, expressed her surprise "to see the name of La Hojarasca and Ridley Scott's Napoleon on the same list", pointing out that "it is also beautiful to see how a newborn volcano can compete with sumptuous European historic centres".

One of the novelties of these international awards is that the participating candidates will compete for two awards, one awarded by a professional jury and the other by the public. This is the reason why the Cabildo is encouraging the people of La Palma to vote before the 31st of January through this link: EUFCN LOCATION AWARDS 2024 - It's time to vote your favourite!

The Best Location Award will be presented in February 2025 at the European Film Market Berlinale in Berlin.
