La Palma consolidates its position as a film destination by hosting a new international blockbuster production

Currently filming for the Netflix platform the British series 'The Choice' with Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy.

The island of La Palma continues to consolidate its position as a filming destination for large audiovisual productions, with the filming of a new international super-production taking place in different parts of the island.

The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, stresses that this is a commitment of the government group, supporting the sector and, above all, the generation of an island economy linked to cinema, with the professionalisation and specialisation of the island's workers.

In this way, through the La Palma Film Commission project managed by the public company Sodepal, the island is hosting the filming of the new high-voltage British series 'The Choice' for Netflix, with the participation of Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy.

The series, created and produced by Matt Charman, known for his work on 'Betrayal' and 'Bridge of Spies', will feature an exceptional cast. Suranne Jones (Watch: Nuclear Conspiracy, Gentleman Jack, Doctor Foster) plays Abigail Dalton, the newly elected British Prime Minister, while Julie Delpy (On the Brink, The Lesson) plays Vivienne Toussaint, the first female president of France.

President Sergio Rodríguez had the opportunity to visit the filming, checking in situ the involvement of companies on the island in the generation of this content. The president emphasised that there are already a dozen companies that actively collaborate with this type of filming, achieving a specialisation that is leading professionals from the island to work on super-productions that are filmed on other islands or on the mainland.

In the case of this filming, the participation of such outstanding figures as Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy not only raises the profile of La Palma as a top film destination, "but also reinforces our commitment to support and facilitate high quality productions", insisted the president.

Miriam Perestelo, CEO of Sodepal, added that the La Palma Film Commission has worked tirelessly to attract high calibre productions to the island. The inclusion of actors such as Corey Mylcreest, Lucian Msamati, Ashley Thomas, James Cosmo and Jehnny Beth, together with the direction of Isabelle Sieb and Amy Neil, promises to make 'The Choice' a first class international series, with the landscape of the island of La Palma being a fundamental part of the story that unfolds, she emphasised.

The plot of 'The Choice' centres on the intense relationship and rivalry between Abigail Dalton and Vivienne Toussaint, who must face a health crisis and heart-stopping decisions as they deal with kidnappings and blackmail that threaten their political careers and their lives.

Filming on the five-part series, each 60 minutes long, began in the UK. In addition to Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy, the cast includes Corey Mylcreest as Matheo Lewis, Lucian Msamati as Kofi Adomako, Jehnny Beth as Adrienne Pelletier, Ashley Thomas as Alex Anderson, and James Cosmo as Max, Dalton's ailing father.

The production team includes executive producers Matt Charman, Suranne Jones, Foz Allan and Steve Searle, with David Meanti as producer.

La Palma Commission

The La Palma Film Commission office, which depends on the Society for the Promotion and Economic Development of La Palma (SODEPAL), works to promote and coordinate the island as a natural set for audiovisual projects, as well as providing services to international production companies and companies from La Palma that join these projects.

So far this year, a total of 57 requests have been dealt with in relation to as many audiovisual projects. Of these, a dozen have been completed or are in the process of being completed this year.

The La Palma Film Commission continues its work to promote the island as an attractive destination for film and television productions, highlighting its commitment to the cultural and economic development of La Palma, as well as positioning it as a tourist attraction linked to the landscapes that form part of the audiovisual productions.
