More than 300 walkers take part in the new edition of the Isla de La Palma International Hiking and Mountain Festival.

The 17th edition of this event will run until 14 September and includes 18 routes to delve into the history of the Isla Bonita.

The Cabildo de La Palma, through the public company Sodepal, is kicking off the 17th edition of the International Hiking and Mountain Festival Isla de La Palma, an already consolidated event that, once again, reaffirms its success by bringing both the local population and visitors to the natural, heritage and ethnographic resources of the island.

On this occasion, the event brings together 300 walkers from all over the Canary Islands and the mainland between 12 and 14 September, through a total of 18 routes that bring participants closer to local history and traditions.

Miriam Perestelo, Councillor for Trade and Economic Promotion of the Cabildo and CEO of Sodepal, stresses the government team's commitment to linking the different routes to products linked to the primary sector, gastronomy, energy and traditions, so that people can enjoy the nature that La Palma has to offer while at the same time learning about part of its history. "All of this with the firm intention of adding value to our heritage and actively contributing to the island's sustainability", he stresses.

"Our island, with its breathtaking landscapes, clear skies and extensive network of trails, is a privileged place for outdoor sports and leisure activities all year round. Initiatives such as this festival represent a clear commitment to a model of sustainable and differentiated tourism, which has positioned La Palma as an outstanding destination within the Canary Islands, recognised nationally and internationally", says the Councillor for Sports, Yurguen Hernández.

The Hiking Festival has a total of 18 routes, each one linked to a specific product or moment in the history of the Island, which allows the people who take part in the event to get to know the Island better.

Also, as a novelty, this year a new modality will be included that will link several municipalities through the Insular Footpath Network, staying overnight in each village and enjoying its charms and gastronomy. This route starts in Puntagorda and ends in the Plaza de España in Santa Cruz de La Palma.
