The Wingfoil Junior World Championship 2024 will be held on the beach of Santa Cruz de La Palma.

This will be the second edition of the event to be held on the island, with the participation of young people of different nationalities.

The beach of Santa Cruz de La Palma will host the Wingfoil 2024 Junior World Championship, to be held between 27 and 30 June as part of the Encuentro del Atlántico project financed by the Department of Economic Promotion of the Cabildo de La Palma.

This will be the second consecutive edition of this international event on the coast of the capital, thanks to the intermediation of the public company Sodepal and with the collaboration of the city council and the Spanish Kiteboarding Association, which has the exclusive authorisation in Spain for the development of the event.

The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, has expressed that this championship "has not only a sporting aspect, with the participation of young people of different nationalities, but also a promotional character for the island itself", due to the media repercussion of the event, which will be followed by both national media and international press specialised in this discipline.

The championship will be disputed in two modalities: slalom and freestyle surfing, and from La Palma will come out the youngsters with the best future in this sport.

The councillor for Economic Promotion and delegate of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, emphasised that "in addition to the promotion and the spectacle of seeing the best young wingfoil players in the world", as happened in 2023, it is also intended "that the residents themselves get to know this sport and come to the beach to see all the possibilities it has, strengthening the city's historical relationship with the sea".

The Councillor for Sports, Yurguen Hernández, pointed out that "we know that wingfoil is a minority sport, with a notable margin for growth, but it is a discipline that adjusts to the wind conditions on the beach of Santa Cruz de La Palma and that, due to the affordable conditions for its practice, it has the capacity to attract all types of users".
