The Cabildo de La Palma, through the Department of Sports directed by Yurguen Hernández, has created and opened the registration process for the first edition of the 'Benahoare League' organised in collaboration with the Town Hall of Los Llanos de Aridane. This is an initiative with which the institutions are committed to bringing football and recreational life back to the streets of the island with a pioneering and innovative tournament in the Canary Islands.

The project is aimed at children from 8 to 12 years of age from the island of La Palma, as well as from other parts of the archipelago. The inclusion clubs of the island will also play a special role in the project.

Yurguen Hernández explains that the 'Benahoare League' was born with the idea of promoting street sport on the island. "That's why we have invented a new way of playing, in which the children will not only play football matches, but will have to think of team tactics as if they were playing a board game.

For four days, the sporting atmosphere will prevail in the municipality of Llanes with intense days of street football and a host of activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting healthy living and sport.

The Benahoare League will also give a voice and visibility to women's football, as the rules of each team state that they must have two female representatives in their ranks. Parents will also play a leading role in the sporting tournament, as "they will be encouraged to participate in their children's matches, in order to promote teamwork and unity between adults and children," says Yurguen Hernández.

The island of La Palma, in general, and Los Llanos de Aridane, in particular, has shown that it has the initiative and capacity to carry out important sporting projects, and is an example and focus of attention for many other municipalities in the archipelago.
