The Cabildo, through Sodepal, will hire 12 professionals to advance in the exploitation of renewable energies.

Sergio Rodríguez points out that the exploitation of geothermal energy is a fundamental axis in the bid to transform the island.

The Cabildo de La Palma, through the public company Sodepal, will hire twelve professionals from different specialties to continue advancing in the exploitation of new energies on the island, giving support and backing to the entity's Renewable Energy Management Centre.

The island's president, Sergio Rodríguez, emphasises that these staff will support the projects being carried out by Sodepal on behalf of the Island Council, enabling further progress to be made in the total change of the island's energy mix, bringing much more autonomy to the territory.

With this project, for which a grant of 500,000 euros has been received from the Canary Islands Employment Service, within the framework of the Canary Islands - State agreement of the Integral Employment Plan, it is possible to promote measures that are in line with the energy transition and to turn it into an axis of transformation.

The investment will enable the recruitment for twelve months of a geology technician, a GIS technician, an environmental technician, a public works technician, a community facilitation technician, a psychology technician, an anthropology technician, a multimedia technician, a computer technician, a field technician, a labour technician and an administrative officer.

This subsidy is also of a training nature, providing personnel trained in this very specific area and allowing the public company and external companies to have specialised professionals available on the island.

The Cabildo's commitment to transforming the island has the exploitation of geothermal energy as a fundamental axis, allowing this action, Sergio Rodríguez emphasises, also to retain local talent on the island, especially in the sectors in which more qualifications will be needed, such as the energy sector.

Furthermore, this work is framed in a context in which the public company of La Palma has obtained the mining rights to obtain geothermal energy in the areas of greatest scientific interest on the island. Once the tender for geothermal resources has been awarded, the Palms Institution will be able to work in the municipalities of Villa de Mazo and Fuencaliente.
