The new edition of Transvulcania Bike, which will be held this Saturday, 30 November, will have more than 300 cyclists between the two competitive modalities, as well as a hundred children who will participate in the Peque Bike. The race, organised by the Cabildo de La Palma, through the public company Sodepal, had to be postponed in July due to the high temperatures.
The president of the island, Sergio Rodríguez, presented the race together with the CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo; the head of Sports Yurguen Hernández; the Councillor for Sports of Fuencaliente, Joel Hernández, as well as renowned participants of the race, such as Tessa Kortekaas, Spanish champion of XCM 2024; Sergio Mantecón, Spanish XCM 2023 champion; Pedro Rodríguez, Canary Islands XCO and XCM 2024 champion, and Carlos Rodríguez, Transvulcania Bike 2022 and 2023 long distance champion.
Sergio Rodríguez highlighted the importance of this event, which is already consolidated in the island's sporting calendar and which each edition positions the island on the international scene as one of the best places to host this type of mountain biking competition, due to the beauty of its route and the warmth of the island's public.
Rodríguez emphasised that proof of this is that this new edition will once again bring together leading figures in cycling, both nationally and internationally, as well as counting once again on the talent of the islands and of La Palma.
Miriam Perestelo, for her part, stressed that this race gives an important boost to the different municipalities through which it passes, such as Fuencaliente, Mazo, Breña Alta, Breña Baja and El Paso. "This promotes the revitalisation of these places and continues to publicise the main attractions of an island that is a World Biosphere Reserve in its entirety and is in the Natura 2000 Network," she said.
The island's Sports Councillor, Yurguen Hernández, recalled that this competition is part of the official calendar of the Canary Islands Cycling Federation, something that reflects the importance of the event, and pointed out the commitment that the Cabildo continues to make to position the island as an ideal destination for outdoor sports. In addition, Hernández also highlighted the Cabildo's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyle habits among the younger population, giving continuity to the Peque Bike modality.
The Councillor for Sports of the Town Council of Fuencaliente, Joel Hernández, thanked the Cabildo for the commitment of the Cabildo to develop this event in the municipality and highlighted the opportunity that this event offers to the participants to enjoy some incomparable landscapes.
