In the short course, Alexis García and Paola Zahonero topped the podium.
Pedro Rodríguez and Tessa Kortekaas have won the Transvulcania Bike 2024 long-distance race, stopping the stopwatch in 2:50:15 and 3:31:40, respectively. In the men's category, second place went to Sergio Mantecón and third place to Carlos Rodríguez, both with a time of 2:57:23. In the women's category, second place went to Anna Ternes, with a time of 3:52:45, and third place went to Lourdes Bethencourt with a time of 4:00:10.
In the short course, Alexis García and Paola Zahonero climbed to the top step of the podium, recording times of 2:06:00 and 2:38:02, respectively. Carlos Afonso was second with a time of 2:07:03 and Antonio Murcia took third place with 2:17:57. In the women's category, Aroa González was second with 1:46:16, and Lucía Perdomo took third place with 2:57:45.
The Transvulcania Bike 2024 route and sponsors
The main event of Transvulcania Bike, which has a distance of 66.38 kilometres, starts in Los Canarios, in the urban area of the municipality of Fuencaliente, going up the Fran Santana track towards the Llano del Jable viewpoint, to continue towards the recreational area of the El Pilar refuge and turn off along the La Hilera track, where the interest lies in observing the dissymmetry in the relief, the occupation of the territory and the vegetation between the two slopes.
From there, the route descends to the LP 3 road to take the Los Lomos track, which takes participants to La Pared Vieja, skirting Roque Niquiomo until they reach the finish line at Los Canarios. The 95 % of the route goes along paths and tracks where the spectacular landscape of the Isla Bonita can be appreciated, with the monteverde, laurel forest and pine forest standing out.
The short course, which covers a total distance of 47.68 kilometres, starts in Los Canarios, in the town of Fuencaliente, going up the Fran Santana track towards the Llano del Jable viewpoint, continuing towards the recreational area of Refugio de El Pilar and turning off along the Cabrito track to the finish line located in Los Canarios, in the municipality of Fuencaliente.
In addition to the competitive modalities, the Peque Bike was held, an urban circuit in Los Canarios adapted for all ages, with a circular route of 2 kilometres.
The Transvulcania Bike is organised by the Cabildo de La Palma, through Sodepal, in collaboration with the town councils of Fuencaliente, Villa de Mazo, Breña Alta, Breña Baja, El Paso and the Canary Islands Cycling Federation, as well as with the support of Cicar, Spar La Palma, Isla Verde and Isola.
